Mrs. Yashoda Devi Thareja
Though we will miss her greatly, we rejoice in knowing that Mrs. Yashoda Devi Thareja aka “Biji” (August 21, 1928 – March 19, 2021) lived a full and blessed 92½ year life!
She was surrounded in person and via video calls by family, each sharing stories and expressing their love and well wishes for her peaceful departure. A blessing to all during this time of COVID lockdowns. We are very grateful!
Yashoda Devi was born in a remote village in Multan (now in Pakistan) to a Station Master Ishwar Das Juneja and Uttam Devi Soni. She was the second child amongst four children, three sisters and a brother. At the age of 20, she married Sain Ditta Mal Thareja, a widower already father for three daughters and a son. She had four children of her own, three sons and a daughter.
Tirelessly working, she was knitting and crocheting sweaters, afghans, hats, gloves for all family, friends, acquaintances, and even for the nursing home staff. Having been able to receive formal education only through elementary school, she had an incredible thirst for learning and respect for education. As a result, all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are all college graduates, many post-graduates, several M.D.'s and a Ph.D.
Her husband, three children and all siblings pre-deceased her. She is survived by five children, 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildredn.
