Shawn Marie Rippee

On December 10, 2020, Shawn Marie Rippee of Severn passed away unexpectedly at the age of 52.  Devoted mother of Gunnar Rippee; beloved daughter of Sharon and Frank Duvall; and, Ken and Joann Coil; loving sister of Mindy and Curt Schneider, Kate and Shane Sanft, and Lisa Duvall.

Shawn was born on February 2, 1968 in Aberdeen, Maryland. Although her life began in Maryland, and some of her fondest memories were spent on the sandy shore of Chincoteague Island, much of her childhood was spent just outside Cincinnati Ohio.

Shawn was a lover of animals, all animals. There wasn’t a time that her home didn’t sound like a symphony of little paws scattering across the floors. Cats, dogs, rabbits, and birds, but most importantly horses. Shawn was a passionate horse lover, with the ability to resonate with and speak to their wild hearts.

Shawn aspired to be a veterinarian, but found herself working in brokerage, while providing refuge to many animals in her personal time. A natural caregiver, her heart was not complete until she was blessed with her son, Gunnar. The love she had for Gunnar was incomparable and will forever be cherished.

Shawn’s personality was compassionate and fun-loving, with a contagious laugh and sweet southern charm. She left those she touched with many memories of summer luaus, fall bonfires, and an “open door policy” - welcoming of any and all with open arms.  The sound of her warmhearted voice uttering phrases like “bless your heart” will echo in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her son, parents, and sisters, as well as nieces, nephew, and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, loving family members and dear friends.

Due to current events and restrictions, funeral services are not being held at this time. Family and friends will be invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shawn’s name may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.
