Shanti Devi Khetan (nee Gupta) passed away on February 6, 2021, after a short stay at Crofton Care & Rehabilitation Center, in Crofton, Maryland.
Shanti was born on February 1, 1932, in India, and was the second eldest of seven children born to Ram Avtar Gupta and Manohari Devi, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was raised in Alwar, Rajasthan, India, where she was renowned as a well-educated and beautiful young woman. She married Radhey Krishna Khetan at the age of 16. She migrated to the US in 1982 to provide her family new opportunities and was an avid devotee of Radha Soami Satsang Beas.
She was a life-long learner and beautiful soul who was fond of singing in Sanskrit or Hindi, meditating, and talking to her family, especially her grandchildren – whether in person, on the phone, or through FaceTime. She had an outgoing and vivacious personality that outshone even the most colorful attire that she would wear…she sparkled inside and out at family weddings and special occasions.
As a mother, her children were her priority and she worked hard to educate them and provide them with a loving household. While she had many talents, she was best known as an avid cook and took great pleasure in creating new recipes for her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Binod Khetan (Suman) of Ghatsila, India; Prakash Khetan (Sunita, previously deceased) of Bowie, Maryland; and Sunil Khetan (Reeta) of Clarksville, Maryland; and daughters Sudha Tulsian (Bhagwati) of Potomac Falls, VA; and Sushma Singhal (Nareesh) of Aligarh, India.
Her biggest joy was her family. She was especially delighted to see her family grow and loved her 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Grandchildren: Vishal (Stephanie), Preety (Vinay), Amit, Ekta (Mayank), Sparsh (Monica), Nishant (Seema), Anurag (Rinku), Nikeeta (Abhishek), Utkarsh, Gaurav, and Udit. Great grandchildren: Akarsh, Krishnaa, Ridhi, Tarini, Neel, Karina, and Ishaan.
