Sanjay Kumar, resident of Laytonsville, Maryland, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his home. He was 63. Sanjay was born on January 7, 1960, in New Delhi, India, and was the son of Bal Krishan Verma and Amrit Verma.
Sanjay resonated life itself. He was extremely charismatic and could endear himself to everyone around him. His family, friends and colleagues remember him for his fun-loving nature. He remembered the most granular details about personal likes and dislikes and would go out of his way to make anyone feel comfortable. Sanjay loved to be around people and he has left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Be it his visits to India to meet family or local visits with friends or colleagues, his energy and larger than life presence always made an ordinary day turn special for everyone around him. His family and friends remember the Diwali celebrations where he would travel all the way to Pennsylvania (2 hour drive each way) to buy and bring back the fireworks. Everyone, especially the kids have very fond memories of the backyard sky light up with fireworks and sparklers. Sanjay had his connection with the kids especially with his daughter, whom he never missed to say every day, “ you are my “jaan” (life/heart). He will be remembered for his selflessness and his generosity- he shared even the smallest of information like good deals on items or coupons. His strong opinions on things were not uncommon and you had to accept him with those.
Sanjay is survived by his beloved wife, Jamuna Yalamanchili; loving daughter Sanjana, mother, two younger sisters, two nieces and a nephew. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, 1411 Annapolis Rd, Odenton, MD 21113 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by lunch in honor of Sanjay at Ananda Restaurant, 7421 Maple Lawn Blvd, Fulton, MD 20759.
The family is requesting that donations if any, may please be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
