Ron Fones died of natural causes on Sept. 25. 2021. Born in Warsaw, Virginia, on Aug. 6,1931, to Virgil Wood Fones and Cora Campbell, he was named Ralston Virgil. As a teenager he chose to be called "Ron".
He enjoyed working many years as an Electronic Technician for the U.S. Geological Survey. He loved auto racing and spent many hours building and driving race cars. This took him to tracks all over the East Coast. Warner Wolf, sports writer for the Washington Post, wrote several great articles about Ron and his racing style. With a growing family, Ron reluctantly declined an opportunity to drive professionally in a Darlington race.
Married at 17, Ron and Helen celebrated 73 years together. They have four daughters and five grandchildren.
Through adversity and with love and support, Ron accomplished all and more than he hoped for. He was a winner and a much loved husband, father and grandfather.
