Mathura D. Sawhney

Mathura Dass Sawhney Died at the age of 91.  He passed away on March 10th at his home surrounded by his family and grandchildren by his side.  Mathura was born in India in what is now the Pakistan region of Punjab.

Mathura did his schooling in India and got the opportunity in 1959 to come to the US to get his master’s degree in mathematics and meteorology at NYU. He was one of the early Indian Americans to have come to the United States. Mathura worked on NASA contracts as a Data Test Director on satellite.

Mathura was very spiritually inclined and after retirement he would travel to India to do further religious studies.  He also got involved in charitable work for monks and would also help families affected by natural disasters.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, elder and younger sons, daughter and their respective spouses and his grandchildren.
