Marc Rawlinson Obituary

Marc Allen Rawlinson, a resident of Odenton, MD, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He was 51. Marc bravely fought appendix cancer for one year. He never lost his positive attitude or infectious smile right up to the very end.

Marc Allen Rawlinson was born on July 20, 1970 in Washington DC to the late Samuel Allen Rawlinson and Luree Rawlinson (nee Cureton) with one brother, Rodney Marcell Rawlinson. As part of a military family (his dad was in the Army), Marc lived in many places including Germany and Texas, but had been a resident of Maryland since he was eight years old when his parents built a house in Severn.

After graduating from Meade High School in 1988, Marc attended Anne Arundel Community College to study criminal justice but found that college life wasn’t for him.  At 19, Marc began working for Iron Mountain where he would remain for thirty-one years, only retiring when he knew he would not be able to return. He held a variety of positions but was most proud when he became a Facility Security Officer. Marc took the position very seriously and worked hard to ensure compliance was maintained throughout. Marc received many awards and accolades over the course of his long tenure and can be found in many Iron Mountain training videos.

Marc married Christine in 2004 after meeting on a blind date a few years before. They shared a love like no other and one that many found inspiring. Together, they raised two boys, Zachary and William. Marc was an amazing, dedicated father. He attended sporting events, cub scout meetings, and shared sage advice on everything from cars to dating. All of Zac and Will’s friends thought that Marc was the “cool” dad growing up.

Marc had many passions in life starting when he was young. He joined the Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 18. Marc also loved cars and motorcycles, owning a wide range of vehicles including a BMW and Suzuki sport bike. In recent years, he took an interest in off roading and loved his 4x4 Jeep Cherokee. Marc’s biggest passion was hunting deer and turkey and could be found in the woods many a fall or winter Saturday. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Chris and visited many places around the world including Mexico, Europe, and the Middle East. Marc could light up a room with his smile and was loved by so many. He was kind, considerate, and an all-around good guy.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Christine; two loving sons, Zachary (Kali) and William (Maddi); devoted mother, Luree; dedicated brother, Rodney (Freeda); nieces and nephew, Rachael, Megan, Reese, Rielly; and precious granddaughter, Charlotte Hope; aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as his many, many friends. Marc is preceded in death by his father, Samuel and two grandmothers, Minnie and Christine.

The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, December 23, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Marc’s Life will be held at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Appendix Cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei Research Foundation, ACPMP.org in Marc’s name.
