Leon LeRoy Lesher, a resident of Severn, MD, passed away on Thursday, March 04, 2021 at his home. He was 86. Leon was born on August 31, 1934 and was the son of the late Roy Lesher and Mae Line Lesher.
Leon was raised in Reading, PA where he met his beloved wife, Barbara, while in their teens. They met at a roller-skating rink during a Valentine’s Day party. Paper hearts cut in half were given to the boys and girls who had to race across the rink to match halves. Their hearts matched and were joined together from that moment on, until death did them part.
Leon served honorably in the U.S. Navy, ultimately retiring a Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from a second career, Leon hung up his hat and he and his wife redoubled their favorite recreation, travelling. Throughout their marriage of 63 years, Leon and Barbara enjoyed traveling with family and friends, starting with RVs. Later in life, they enjoyed taking cruises the world over. Their favorite destination was Barcelona, Spain.
Leon will always be remembered as a humble, selfless, and compassionate man who lived his life with great devotion to his family and friends. His mild mannered, light-hearted company was always welcomed and treasured. He had the patience of a Saint and is sorely missed. May God enjoy having him home again, one of His loving children and bless Leon with His presence for eternity.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lesher of Severn, MD; loving children, Lori Leffel and husband, Bob of Severn, MD and Navy Captain Lance Lesher, and wife, Cynthia of Virginia Beach, VA; 5 cherished grandchildren, Nicole and Rachel Leffel, Christa , Tabatha and Seth Lesher; devoted brother, Lynn Lesher of Reading, PA; caring nephew and niece James Lesher and Ann Bruno.
