Kantaben S. Sheth, resident of Laurel, MD left for her heavenly abode on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 with her youngest son, Devesh Sheth, by her side. She was 90 years old. She was born on January 30, 1931 in Sankheda, India as the youngest child to late Smt. Hiralakshmi and late Shri Kachulal Kagdi.
In line with then prevailing culture and belief of girls not studying much, she studied up to 4th grade. She got married to late Shri Sundarlal Sheth of Dabhoi, India who was a teacher. As a child, she grew up in the British ruled India. Having witnessed ongoing struggle of India’s freedom, she protested British occupation of India and learnt to operate a rifle as well.
Her deep quest of getting more education got encouragement from her forward minded husband and led her to resume her studies even after having four kids, 2 sons and 2 daughters. Through self-study, she completed her high school education as an external student and went on to get her Primary Teachers Certificate (P.T.C.). She lived a very hard working, disciplined and religious life. She was also very kind and compassionate by nature and with the help of her husband instilled these qualities of hard work, compassion for others and honesty in her children. Despite having limited resources, they tried to give the best of education to their children.
She permanently immigrated to United States in 2003 and lived with her youngest son’s family in Laurel, MD. She found great satisfaction in giving and getting love to/from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She did regular seva of her Thakorji and joined hundreds of Vaishnavas from across the US for daily religious discourse on phone.
She is survived by a loving family of 3 children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 10 great grandchildren.
