Joyce "Jay" E. Himes

On March 14, 2016, Joyce “Jay” E. Himes passed away at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 88.  Devoted husband of 16 years to Sara Buchanan Himes; beloved father of Stuart J. Himes of Laurel, Craig R. Himes of Pennsylvania and Steven Moss of California; caring brother of William and Leonard Himes, both of Oklahoma; special uncle to Kenneth Russworm of California, Larry Russworm of California, and Bruce Himes of Bowie; Cherished grandfather of Stefanie Stewart, Ashleigh Himes, Mimi Moss, Noah Himes, and Steven Moss Jr and great-grandfather of Mason Tobar, Troy Stewart and Aiden Moss.  He was predeceased by five siblings, Cecil, Leslie, Vivian, Melvin and Ines.  Jay is also survived by many loving family members and dear friends.

Born in Oklahoma, Jay lived in Annapolis for this past year and in Upper Marlboro for 16 years prior to that.  He proudly served his country as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force for over 20 years and various other duties before retiring. He then worked as a life insurance agent for New York Life for over 40 years.   He loved to dance and was a member of the DC Hand Dance Club and was also a member of the Officer’s Club at Andrews Air Force Base.  Jay enjoyed working, traveling and playing golf.
