Iran L. Butts

On July 27, 2024, Iran L. Butts of Severn went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his father Dr. Phillip L. Butts Sr. (partner Evelyn Mcrae) and his sister Rhonda Smith (life partner Keith Killins). He is predeceased by his mother Dorothy Butts and his brother Phillip Butts Jr.

Iran, affectionately called “Dude” by his dad, had a passion for music. He inherited his drumming skills from his father and excelled as a musician. A graduate of Arundel High School (Class of 1983), Iran attended the Philadelphia School of Performing Arts. He was one of only two musicians chosen in the state of Maryland for the McDonald All American Band, which allowed him to perform in the Macy’s Parade.  He made the All-State Jazz Band, All-state Band, as well as the All-State Orchestra.  His absence will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved him.
