Harriett E. Sampson, 80, was born August 14, 1942, to the union of Harrison Nelson and Lillie Pearl Nelson in Chattanooga, TN. Harriett passed away peacefully early Sunday morning October 2, 2022, of complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. Despite her illness, Harriett’s sweet spirit remained present and strong, and was loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her mother Lillie Pearl Nelson, father Harrison Nelson, sister Rhonda Faye Nelson, brother Edwin Nelson, and brother Clevant Nelson.
Harriett graduated from Howard High School (Chattanooga, TN) in 1960. After various jobs, she found employment at the United States Post Office in Washington, DC, where she retired after over 30 years of service. She was the matriarch of the family and was a selfless soul, giving to all who crossed her path. Harriett enjoyed her family, extended family and friends. Her bubbly personality was infectious and she was the life of the party. She loved to dance and welcomed any opportunity to strut her stuff. Harriett was an amazing cook; her natural talent of cooking was astonishing. She loved to prepare delicious meals for her family and friends. Harriett was always willing to share her knowledge and craft of cooking with anyone who was eager to learn.
Harriett leaves to mourn and cherish her memories three siblings; Sherry D. Jones [brother-in-law Sam], Fate Nelson [sister-in-law Dempsey], Ronnie Nelson [sister-in-law Alice], three children; Sheila Lee, Cheryl Seburn, and Joe P. Sampson [beloved daughter-in-law Deborah], seven grandchildren; Ronnie T. Lee, Caitlin Elias, Tyrel Seburn, DominiQue C. Sampson, Cheryse Seburn, Chanel Miles, and Jordan P. Sampson, one great-grandchild; MaKenna Lee, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
