Dr. Amar Nath Suri, age 86, passed away in Burtonsville, MD on September 2, 2021.
Dr. Suri was born in 1935 in the village of Nara, British India. During Partition, he moved with his family to Haridwar, before resettling in Bareilly, UP. Dr. Suri attended Bareilly College, obtaining a BA in Physics. He also studied at Nainital College, and then obtained a scholarship to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of Leeds in the UK, before returning to India to conduct postdoctoral research on cosmic rays at the Kolar Gold Fields . Dr. Suri married his wife Manju in 1968, and they moved to the United States in 1969. His son, Rajiv, was born in 1971, shortly after which the Suri’s moved to New Hampshire so that Dr. Suri could continue his post-doctoral research at the University of New Hampshire. Finally, in 1975, they moved to Maryland, at which time Dr. Suri joined the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), where he worked until retirement in 2014. While working for CSC, Dr. Suri supported a number of NASA satellite and shuttle missions as a systems engineer. He enjoyed painting, spending time with his wide circle of friends in the DC metro area, visiting his friends from New Hampshire and Nainital, and writing stories and poems for his grandchildren, Vidya and Vivek. Dr. Suri is remembered fondly by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, family and friends.
Services and cremation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, at 11:00am, at Donaldson Funeral Home (1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113). This will be followed by a Puja and Shanti Path on Saturday, September 11 at 4:30pm, at the Hindu Temple of Metropolitan Washington (10001 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD 20783).
