Brian Timothy Pope, Sr. was born to the late Alexander Pope, Sr. and the late Irona Pope (nee Lee) on February 2, 1962. He departed this life on April 3, 2025, after a brief illness. Brian was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and is the product of Baltimore City Public Schools. He graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1980, where he ran varsity track and field. Brian graduated from Morgan State University in 1984. He was a proud Poly Parrot and an even prouder Morgan Bear.
While at Morgan State University, he joined the Army ROTC and entered the United States Army as an officer in 1984. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He would eventually join the Army Reserves and then the Maryland Army National Guard. Brian had several active-duty tours throughout his military service and he retired in 2010 as a Lieutenant Colonel (O5) after twenty-six years of honorable military service.
Brian met Jennifer Paulette Lily in 1993. They were married on June 1, 1996, and from their union, they welcomed three children: Jasmine Nicole Pope, Brian Timothy Pope, Jr. (BJ), and Jaden Patrick Pope.
After joining the Army Reserves, Brian began his law enforcement career with the Annapolis City Police Department. Ultimately, he joined the Maryland Capital Police, where he would spend the majority of his law enforcement career.
Brian was a loving husband and father, but there are few things in life he loved more than his Raiders football team. He loved movies, tv-shows, comedies, and music. He cherished his collection of DVDs and CDs. He cherished every moment that he shared with his family and friends.
Brian leaves behind his loving wife, Jennifer Pope, his three children, Jasmine Pope, Brian Pope, Jr. (BJ), and Jaden Pope; one sister, Irona M. Pope, one brother, Thomas W. Pope (his brothers Alexander Pope, Jr. and Ronald Pope, Sr. preceded him in death); his sisters-in-law Phyllis Pope, Marla Pope, and Samantha Lily; his brother-in-law, Andrew Easy, his mother-in-law, Bernice Davis, his father-in-law, Rupert Lily, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
