Angeles Torres Obituary

Angeles S. Torres, a resident of Odenton, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at the Morningside House of Friendship in Hanover, MD. She was 91. Angeles was born on June 21, 1931 in Manati, Puerto Rico and was the daughter of the late Arturo Santana and Alejandrina Martinez.

Early in her life she moved with her mother to New York City where her mother worked for the census. Her mother unexpectedly died when she was 10 years old. She moved back to Puerto Rico and was raised by her aunts Isabel, Sara and Gloria. She graduated from Manati High School in 1949 and received a full scholarship to the University of Puerto Rico where she studied teaching. She met her beloved Pepito in high school and they married early in 1950. In 1962 she taught Spanish to paratroopers of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. They were scheduled to jump into Cuba if need be. In 1967-1968 she also taught Spanish at the Bangkok International School.

Angeles is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Jose Torres-Melendez of Odenton, MD; two loving daughters Blanca (Howard) Lerman of Denver, CO and Myrna (Bruce) Buddemeyer of Millersville, MD. She cherished her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren Shannon Morris and Santana Hawk of Severna Park, MD, Magalie Lerman of Seattle, Washington, Alex Lerman of Denver, CO and Erin (Kevin, Lennon and Oliver) Roberts of Davidsonville, MD. She is also survived by half-sister Sylvia (Lynn) Malinoski of Schuylerville, NY. Angeles is preceded in death by her daughter, Magalie Torres.

Our great wall has fallen. A thousand memories and all the firsts. The woman who loved to cook, dress and look her best. The woman who loved art and all things beautiful. The woman who loved all babies. The woman who would call just to say the Wizard of Oz or the Sound of Music was on TV. The woman who couldn't pass a perfume counter without dousing herself in fragrance.

She had an amazing life; living all over the world with her husband and children. Experiencing things she never thought she would do. So many stories where her spunk shines through. Celebrating and loving the same man for 72 years of marriage and raising three girls. An amazing life where there was tragedy and loss, but also filled with love, adventure and survival.

Nosotras te amaremos por siempre.
