Amarjit Singh Sahni

Amarjit Singh Sahni, a resident of Ellicott City, MD, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He was 78. Amarjit was born on August 7, 1944 in Murid, Punjab, India (now Pakistan) and was the eldest child of the late Sardar Singh Sahni and Amrit Kaur Sahni.

Amarjit was a very caring person who was always ready to offer words of encouragement to family and friends. He knew the importance of saying sorry, thank you, and shabash. He was strong and hard working, humble, loved to help others, and enjoyed the simple things. He loved gardening, going for walks, and eating large bowls of ice cream. He had a strong sense of community and frequented many different gurdwaras in the area. He was an avid teller of stories and loved to make jokes. He had an infectious smile. Amarjit was a trained Mechanical Engineer who worked for over 20 years at HMT in Haryana, India. Amarjit had two big immigrations in his life. When he was a small child his family moved to Amritsar as part of Partition. He later emigrated with his family to Baltimore, MD when he was 40 and that is where he would spend the remainder of his life. He loved and was proud of his family.

Amarjit is survived by his beloved wife, Parkash Sahni; 3 loving children, Manveen Kaur Sahni (husband, Raj Sethi), Sukhveen Kaur McClain (husband, Scott McClain) and Harleen Singh Sahni (wife, Caitlin Hopping); 5 cherished grandchildren, Ashni Kaur Sethi, Malcolm McClain, Melanie McClain, Leah Sahni and Ronan Sahni; 7 devoted siblings, Savinder Kaur Chadha (Rani), Harvinder Bhatia (Kaki), Jasvinder Singh Sahni (Daisy), Harpreet Kaur Kohli (Pappy), Jagjit Singh Sahni (Jaggi), Paramjit Kaur Babbar (Jeeti), and Rajinder Singh Sahni. He joins his late brother Durlab Singh Sahni (Lubby). He is also survived by Bonsai, his beloved dog.

The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. There will also be prayer services at GNFA Gurdwara in Silver Spring, MD from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the same day.
