Colonel Allen J. Montecino, Jr., Ret. USAF, passed away on September 17, 2018 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Virginia Schmidt Montecino (married almost 63 years) and cherished father of Virginia Montecino (Ken Nakamura), Allen L. Montecino (Marnelle), Lisa Montecino Krizan (Martin) and Michael P. Montecino (dec.) and grandchildren Madeleine Nakamura, Aaron Montecino, Matthew Montecino, Russell Krizan and Justine Krizan. Son of Wilma Dufresne Montecino and Allen J. Montecino, Sr.(both dec.), brother of Jules Montecino (dec.), Kathy Bigham and Lauralyn Pecos. Col. Montecino, who began as an enlisted man, served 30 years and was an Air Force pilot. He flew many aircraft and combat missions in Southeast Asia and commanded Air Force Squadrons in Athens, Greece and Hahn, Germany and was Wing Commander of the Electronic Security Wing at Ft. Meade, MD. His decorations include the Legion of Merit (1 Oakleaf Cluster), the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Star. He earned a Masters degree in History and taught numerous history courses at the Learning in Retirement Institute at George Mason University after retirement. He held the position of Treasurer of his community association for many years. A memorial service (preceded by a gathering at noon) will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm, at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Rd, Odenton, MD. 21113 Refreshments will be served after the service at the Cedar Ridge Club House, 8602 Wandering Fox Trail, Odenton, MD. 21113 Col. Montecino will be buried with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
