“The connections we make in the course of a life – maybe that’s what heaven is.” – Fred Rogers
Warana “Sasi” Tripurasasi, 55, of Odenton, Maryland passed away on September 11, 2024, after a long bout with breast cancer.
Sasi was born on March 3, 1969 in Blitar, East Java. After graduating from Sekolah Menengah Atas Katolik Diponegoro (Diponegoro Catholic High School) in Blitar in 1987, she attended Universitas Negri Jember (State University of Jember) in East Java, Indonesia, and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
She initially worked in Jakarta and Surabaya, later moving to Bali to begin her own art business. While in Bali, she created hand-crafted stationery and supplied her work to art shops and hotels on the resort island.
It was there in Bali she met her husband, Joshua Finch, in 1999, and they married in Denpasar, Bali, in December, 2001. They went on to have 2 children, Dylan Pramana and Nicholas Arundaya.
Sasi was a devoted wife and mother, and supported her husband’s career as he served the U.S. Department of State in Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Perth, Australia; and domestically in the United States. She was multi-lingual, speaking Japanese, Indonesian, English and Spanish, and her love of life and joy she brought to others built strong friendships wherever she traveled around the world.
Sasi surrounded herself with beauty, especially in the art that she created around her. She loved painting, crafting, and gardening. She taught herself floral arrangement and most recently worked as a florist until her illness prevented her from working.
Sasi was preceded in death by her father, Sardju Harjo Soenyoto, her mother, MPP Koestik Suwarti, her stepmother Suprapti, and brothers Bambang Eko Kartiko and Hari Bahar. She is survived by her brothers Dwi Ponggo, Sulion Kusnan, Galih Saksono, Onggo Sadewo, sisters Dwi Ratri, Warana Indirawin, Anya Katidiyah, Roro Handani, Nani Faraharini, and Warana Abaya Mudra, by her husband Joshua and her sons Dylan and Nick.
