Walter James Buckholtz, Jr. of Gambrills, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Annapolis, Maryland. Walter was born on February 5, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late Walter James Buckholtz, Sr. and Blanche (Berkley) Muse Parrott.
Although born in Philadelphia, Walter spent much of his time in and around Atlantic City and Ocean City, NJ, graduating from Ocean City High School with letters in Track, Basketball, and Football. He met and married Joan Anthony in 1953, not too long after he began his career in the United States Air Force.
Walter was a proud member of the Air Force, with tours of duty in Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan, retiring from Nellis AFB, NV in 1972 as a Staff Sergeant (Personnel Equipment Specialist). After returning to the States from Japan in the mid-‘70s, Walter worked at Bally’s Casinos in Atlantic City, managing Food Services until 1996. He was a hard worker and self-trained carpenter; the home he shared with his third wife, Virginia in Absecon was the showcase of the neighborhood. He was last employed at Anchor Security Services in Long Island, NY before he relocated to Gambrills in 2006 to be closer to his family.
Walter is survived by his five children: William Buckholtz, Walter Buckholtz, Donna Hudson, David Buckholtz (with his first wife, Joan (Anthony) Elliott) and Nobuko Smith (with his second wife, Nobuko); eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, Maryland 21113. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
