Vernon Duane McIlvain
Quiet Strength, Humble Heart
1941 – 2025
With deep love and hope in Christ, we announce that Vernon Duane McIlvain entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by his beloved family.
Vernon was a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, humility, and kindness. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, he lived his life with integrity, generosity, and a profound sense of purpose. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit and the way he always put others before himself.
Born in 1941, Vernon served his country with honor and carried that same spirit of service into every part of his life. He was a man of deep faith and quiet conviction. He was never the one to seek the spotlight, but always the first to lend a hand.
Vernon found his greatest joy in his family. He was the beloved husband of 60 years and a proud father of Douglas, whom he loved immensely. He poured his heart into his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and his great-grandson, whose lives he helped shape with love, wisdom, and grace.
He is survived by his wife Ok Ja McIlvain, son Douglas McIlvain, daughter-in-law Karyn McIlvain, grandchildren Amanda, Katelyn, Faith, Chris, and great-grandson Parker. He is also survived by six of his siblings: Lois Anderson, Donald McIlvain Sr., Burma McCombs, William McIlvain, Mary Ellen Smith, and Charles McIlvain, along with many extended family members who give thanks for his life and testimony.
A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 18th at 6:30 PM at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. in Odenton, Maryland, followed by a brief service at 7:00 PM.
A Private Military Honor Burial will be held at a later date in recognition of his faithful service to God and country.
