Vernestine Maye-Jones

August 28, 1952 — September 26, 2018

Vernestine Maye-Jones was born on August 28, 1952 to the late William Jerome Maye Sr. and Ellanora Shirley Gaddis Maye, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Along with her twin brother Vernon Maye. She was the sixth birth of eleven children. Her nickname as a child was Porky which she hated. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system. Vern furthered her education at Temple University Upward Bound Program where she completed her prerequisite sciences to enter McCarrie School of Health Technology in Philadelphia, where she studied Dental Assistance and graduated in 1970, and became certified having a long professional career until her retirement in January 2015. She was an Army vet that acquired her DA and CDA for 30 years of work and acquired Emeritus status with the ADAA for her hard work and dedication. Vern worked diligently for the Dental and Periodontist Practice of Dr. Lawrence R.D.D.S. in Ellicott City Maryland. She was a faithful and dedicated employee. Vern is a veteran who served during the Vietnam era. She was a member of the Women’s Army Corp (W.A.C.) at her entrance into the United States Army. She reached out to her community as a entrepreneur selling Mary Kay Cosmetics. You could count on her to always have any sample you needed. Vern volunteered her services to the handicapped adolescent population, volunteering at Team Smiles. They loved do see her coming and she enjoyed serving them. She was a wonderful mother and a dedicated wife. She leaves to mourn four children two daughters and two sons. Sevalia Woodson, Regina Jones, Robert Gross II, Justin Jones. She was married to Doyle Jones for 30 years. She has four sisters and two brothers who proceeded her in death (Christine, Willetta, Elzata, Effie, Vernon and William). Her living siblings mourn her, Sevalia, Frances, Elton, Brian and Mondray. She also leaves 11 grandchildren: Kiara, Robert III, Elijah, Kayleen, Robyn, Jaiden, Madesyn, Raegan, Major, Asa, and Carter. Also, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and coworkers. She will be missed dearly. Vern left footprints on everyone’s heart that she touched.
