Timothy J. Mcnamara

Timothy J. McNamara, age 71, of Gambrills, MD passed away from complications of pneumonia on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, MD. He suffered a cardiac arrest in October and never fully recovered.  Tim was born on June 30, 1944 in Flushing, NY to the late James Joseph McNamara and Alice (Stephenson) McNamara.

Tim moved from New York to the Town of Bladensburg in the 1960’s.  When he retired in January 2014 after 45 years of involvement with Bladensburg, he was simultaneously the Director of Code Enforcement under the Police Department;  the Director of Public Works; and Deputy Town Administrator.  He was an elected Councilman from 1979 – 1987. He also spent many hours of volunteer work for the town.   Hobbies included woodworking, home video production, and decorating his home with thousands and thousands of Christmas lights.  Every year he enjoyed setting up a Christmas village in his “workshop”.  Christmas was Tim's favorite time of the year.  He took great pleasure in sharing his Christmas enthusiasm and spirit with all of those around him.

Tim is survived by his wife of 27 years, Linda Nelson of Gambrills, MD; daughter, Amy McNamara and her fiancée,  Tonya Fowler of Cumberland, MD; sister, Carol Hougland and her husband, Larry of Rock Island, IL; brother, Bill McNamara of Keithsburg, IL and two grandchildren, Andrew McNamara and his wife, Kathleen of Bowie, MD and Aaron McNamara of Cumberland, MD.  Tim was predeceased by daughter Wendy Glascock.

Family and Friends will gather at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A brief memorial program will take place onsite from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for anyone who may wish to attend.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or donations of Christmas toys may be made to any organization helping families for Christmas.
