Thomas Clifford Thomas, known to his family and friends as Tom, passed away in his home April 20, 2026, leaving many shocked and saddened by his quiet departure.

Born and raised in the rural Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Tom cherished the rugged beauty of the northwoods. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter who often referred to his hometown area as “God’s Country.” He was deeply devoted to his family and cherished spending time with his sisters, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Though his career took him away from Michigan, he made it a priority to return home regularly, staying closely connected to his roots. Everyone that knew Tom, knew of his voicing his opinion of the northwoods bugs.

A private service will be held in Maryland for his Air Force area friends and coworkers. A Celebration of Life will take place in Marenisco, Michigan, in 2027 for family and friends in the area. Dates and times will be announced at a later date.

Professionally, Tom leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and service to the United States, spanning over three decades across both active duty military and civilian roles.

Tom began his career in the United States Air Force on December 30, 1986, serving with distinction until his retirement as a Master Sergeant on August 31, 2009. His commitment to the mission continued through various Department of Defense contractor roles before he entered Air Force Civil Service on March 19, 2020. A vital asset to the Air Force Cryptologic Office, Tom spent years in the Directorate of Operations before becoming the Policy Program Manager for the Compliance and Oversight Division. In this critical role, he meticulously shaped national policies impacting the entire Air Force Cryptologic Enterprise.

Tom’s exceptional professionalism and lasting legacy will be deeply missed by his teammates.

There will be a  post-service luncheon at Casa Della Nonna, 8141 Telegraph Road in Severn from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and the family hopes you will be able to attend.
