Theodore "Ted" Louis Felsentreger

October 20, 1936 — June 15, 2013

Theodore "Ted" Louis Felsentreger of Gambrills, MD passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his residence, at the age of 76. His death was a result of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Ted was born on October 20, 1936 in Holyoke, MA to the late Theodore John Felsentreger and Katherine Louise Krahenbild Felsentreger.

The family moved to Arbutus, Maryland, where Ted attended grade schools. He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1954. He earned a BS in electrical Engineering and an MS in Mathematics. In May, 1963 he began working for NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center until his retirement in January, 1995. His work for Goddard was recognized and rewarded a multitude of times. During his time at Goddard he monitored an established bluebird trail and continued his monitoring after his retirement. He also monitored the bluebird population in his neighborhood, Hallmark Woods. He loved sports and was an accomplished bowler and baseball player, but his real love was fishing. He enjoyed introducing people to fishing and providing fish meals for his family. To Ted, a day of crabbing with his family and enjoying the succulent feast that followed was a day well spent. Ted was a loving father, and he especially enjoyed watching Joseph and Cheryl participating in swim meets, soccer, and lacrosse games. Ted was a dog lover. He was as faithful to his dogs as his dogs were to him.

Ted was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Gambrills and Crofton where he served for several years as treasurer and deacon of finance. "Empty and Partially Empty Nesters", one of the churches' interest groups, was a brain child of Ted's that he and his wife facilitated for over ten years. With his wife he also served as co-superintendents of Sunday School.

Ted is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary "Jane" Felsentreger of Gambrills, MD; son, Joseph Felsentreger of Midland, VA and daughter, Cheryl Fries and her husband, David of Silver Spring, MD.

The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway, Gambrills, MD 21054 on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. A Celebration of Ted's Life will be held at the church on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be private; Ted has requested that his ashes be made part of an artificial reef in the Chesapeake Bay.
