Sara ‘Sally’ Anna Shoemaker, 91, died on November 21, 2023.
She was born on July 3, 1932 in Virginia but was raised and lived in Odenton, MD. Sally moved to Colorado to earn her degree in education and quickly found herself back in Maryland to pursue her career. She started her career in Anne Arundel Public School Systems as a Home Economics teacher and went on to earn her Masters degree. Because of her dedication and love of education, she had worked her way to become the county’s Home Economics supervisor by the time of her retirement.
Sally put her heart and soul in whatever she did; whether it was being the president of the Odenton Heritage Society, on the board of the Odenton Town Center Advisory Committee or involved with the Greater Odenton Improvement Association. She truly enjoyed being a member of the Friendship Craft Group, traveling overseas with elder hostel groups, cooking, and gardening to name a few. Though Sally had many talents, being a master seamstress was her ultimate love and it showed through the perfectionism in her work.
Sally had an intense, tenacious, and fearless energy which showed with everything she accomplished.
Sally will be immensely missed by her loving sisters, Mary 'Polly' L. Shoemaker and Susan Catherine Tucker. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Sally was a wonderful sister, friend, and mentor.
In lieu of flowers, Sally requested donations to the Odenton Heritage Center or Rude Ranch.
