Sallie M. (Land) Ruffo

November 5, 1923 — December 29, 2016

On December 29, 2016, Sallie M. Ruffo (nee Land) passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 93.  Born in Middlesex, North Carolina, Sallie lived in Gambrills for 14 years and prior to that in Forestville.  Beloved wife of 39 years to the late Anthony “Tony” F. Ruffo; devoted mother of Michele M. Kaub of Gambrills and Pamela Ruffo McKeown and her husband Brian of Connecticut; Cherished grandmother of William A. Bowman and his wife Dawn of Oregon and Michael P. Bowman and his wife Beth of Edgewater; great-grandmother of Kaitlynn and Victoria Bowman of Oregon and Emily Bowman of Edgewater; great-great-grandmother of Brogan Wilson of Oregon.  Sallie was predeceased by her sisters Lois Eddins and Jessie Utnik and her brothers Thomas and Carl Land.

Sallie worked for the Department of the Army at the Pentagon for 7 years before then working as an Administrative Assistant for the Census Bureau.  She retired after 24 years of service.  Sallie was a member of the Queen Knights of Columbus in Forestville; the sodality of Blessed Virgin Mary at Mt. Calvary Church and the District Heights Funsters.  She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and playing cards.
