Ryan Edward Portis

Ryan departed this world unexpectedly on Sunday, December 18, 2022, after a brief illness.

Ryan was educated in Anne Arundel County public schools and received his diploma in 1993.  He was employed as a welder, using the skills he learned in school, and also held a variety of jobs while he was able to work.

In his leisure time, Ryan loved playing guitar along with his friend Joey, and listening to all types of music.

He enjoyed spending time in nature; fishing, and going for walks where he drew strength and a sense of peace from being outdoors.  Most of all, Ryan loved going for walks in the woods and along trails with his son Cody.  They had adventures riding the train to Washington DC to explore the Smithsonian museums.  Their most anticipated family trip was to Ocean City – long-delayed because of COVID.  It was the highlight of the summer for Ryan and Cody to walk together into the surf of the Atlantic Ocean, wearing their matching shirts, and of course, Ryan wearing his ever-present ballcap.

Ryan is survived by his loving parents Susan Portis of Odenton, MD and Michael Portis of Dayton, Ohio; his adoring son Cody Portis and his dear brothers Scott Portis and Chris Portis.

In lieu of flowers, Ryan and his family would most appreciate having a tree planted in Ryan’s memory or giving a contribution to www.autism-society.org to help people like his son Cody.
