On October 7, 2014, Rufus Joseph Handy of Odenton passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was 85. Devoted husband of 63 years to Mary D. Handy (nee Jones); Beloved father of Patricia A. Montgomery (and Donald) of Gambrills, Althea M. Handy of Baltimore City, Randolph J. Handy (and Kim Latimore) of Philadelphia, Karen J. Handy of Washington, D.C., and Darryl C. Handy (and Tara) of Bethesda; Cherished grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 5. He was predeceased by his son Carl Handy and his brothers and sisters.
Rufus was born on February 11, 1929 in Louisiana and lived in Odenton for the last 46 years. He proudly served his country as a Verbatim Stenographer for the United States Army until he retired after 21 years of service. He then worked for Prudential for 15 years before starting his own seafood business, Handy Seafood. Rufus was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #5263 and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports and playing tennis. He also had a fond appreciation of jazz music. Most especially, Rufus loved spending time with his family.
