He then worked as a Longshoreman at the docks in Norfolk, VA before retiring to Sarasota, Florida in 1994. He was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity. He especially enjoyed traveling with friends, spending time with family and eating at his favorite restaurant: “Peaches” in Sarasota.
Above all, Robert treasured family. He is survived by his brother, M. Glenn Phipps and sister-in-law, Linda Phipps as well as 12 nieces & nephews, 22 great-nieces & great-nephews and 18 great-great nieces & nephews. He was an Uncle to everyone! He was preceded in death by both parents, and brothers Sidney Ray Phipps, Jr. and James Daniel Phipps.
