Robert "Bob" Lester Rusteberg of Annapolis, MD passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at his home, peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 91. Bob was born on November 18, 1920 in Annapolis, MD to the late Charles Rusteberg and Helen (Anderson) Rusteberg.
Robert was born in Annapolis and lived there his entire life except for times when he was stationed overseas. He grew up in the historic district of Annapolis on Prince George Street. He attended school on Green Street, through high school, and joined the United States Navy in 1939. He served in World War II, in the Pacific, and was later stationed for several years in Japan. It was there that he met his beloved wife of 50 years, Teruko. They moved back to Annapolis, and raised two children. Upon retirement from the United States Navy, Bob worked for the Department of Defense, as a civilian, in Annapolis.
Bob enjoyed music, especially Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra, and also enjoyed the movies. He was especially proud of his family, and also enjoyed to travel with them. Above all, he wanted his family to be happy, and he went to great lengths to ensure that they had everything they wanted.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Teruko Rusteberg of Annapolis, MD; daughter, Teresa Helen Lukens of Annapolis, MD; son, Robert Michael Rusteberg of Queenstown, MD; two grandchildren, Astrid and Ava Lukens and his sister, Betty Higman of Pittsburgh, PA.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. An Interment Service will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401 or at www.hospicechesapeake.org .
