Rita M. Canning

Rita M. Canning of Odenton, MD, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD, at the age of 80. Rita was born on August 10, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to the late Francis Tine and Nellie (Capone) Tine.

She was a loving, giving mother that lived for her family's happiness. Always active in the St. Joseph's Parish and the O'Malley Center, her caring and warm way pleased all that knew her. Hard to keep up with, she was a world traveling, golfing, bowling, shopping and bingo playing Italian on wheels. Many a younger person could not keep up with her. Our lives were blessed to have her touch them.

Rita is survived by her three children, John J. Canning, Jr. of Annapolis, MD, Stephen F. Canning of Glyndon, MD and Tina M. Canning of Honolulu, HI; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter and a sister, Marie Butler of Urbanna, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Canning and sister, Josephine Berg.

The family will receive friends at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church.
