With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard P. Sobczyk Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who peacefully departed this world on April 20, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on July 7, 1953, in Omaha, Nebraska, Richard lived a life rooted in quiet strength, service, and love for the simple joys. He served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he cultivated a deep sense of discipline, duty, and dedication. After his military retirement, he continued serving his community through his work with the United States Postal Service.
Richard was a man of thoughtful passions. A lover of classic science fiction and westerns, an old soul who found comfort in the music of The Beatles and the timeless sounds of the ’60s and ’70s. But some of his favorite moments were the simple ones — playing Pictionary with his grandkids, sharing a laugh or sitting across the board for a game of chess.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Norgie Sobczyk, his daughters Juliet Sobczyk and Jennifer Johns, and his grandchildren O’Syris Hooper, Tyler Johns, Alyssa Johns, and Kayla Johns, all of whom he adored. He also leaves behind his sister, Denise Tomlinson, who remained close throughout his life.
He had a thoughtful heart and a quiet presence and a love for the little things. His dry wit and clever sense of humor were always close by, often showing up in the form of a well-timed dad joke or a story only he could tell. He’ll be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and steady presence will stay with us always.
A private family service will be held in his honor. If you’d like to do something in his memory, spend a little time with your loved ones, play a board game with them, watch an old western, or put on a Beatles song — something that would’ve made him smile.
