Richard Joseph Hicks

Richard "Dick" Joseph Hicks of Gambrills, MD, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 79 after a 2 year illness. Richard was born in Philadelphia, PA. He attended Saint James High School and then went onto obtain a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1958 from Villanova University. Richard spent his entire career supporting the space industry, primarily as a NASA contractor. His career began at General Electric Space Division where he supported multiple missions, including Nimbus and Landsat, for over 26 years. He continued his career at The MITRE Corporation and then Orbital Sciences Corporation where he supported numerous programs, including a number of Hubble Space Telescope Missions, until his retirement in 2013.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary, and his four children; Thomas Hicks (Patricia), Catherine Weeks (Ed), Robert Hicks, and Edward Hicks (Dawn). In addition, he is survived by 3 sisters, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Visitation service will take place at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 1283 Odenton Road, Odenton, MD 21113. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
