Raymond S. Myers Sr., affectionately known as “Mook” to friends and “Mookie” to himself, was called to glory on November 23, 2024, at the age of 54. A long-time resident of Severn, Maryland, he most recently lived at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ray was known for his warm, kind, and infectious personality, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Raymond Spencer Myers Sr. was born on August 15, 1970, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to the late Raymond Myers and Elaine Curtis. Ray spent his early years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before moving to Fayetteville, North Carolina. While there, he excelled as a state champion football player and graduated from Seventy-First High School. In 1988, Ray began his distinguished military career by enlisting in the United States Army. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, followed by Ad-vanced Individual Training as a Medical Specialist at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. His first duty sta-tion was at Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty), North Carolina, allowing him to stay close to family before deploying to Panama for Operation Just Cause. Ray's military service also took him to Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War, Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany, and Fort Meade MEDDAC in Maryland. After retiring for the first time in 1999, Ray rejoined the Army in 2005 as a member of the Virginia National Guard, retraining as an Information Technology Specialist. His combined military service spanned 24 years, culminating in his retirement as a proud Sergeant First Class. He was a devoted member of the Prince Hall Masonic family. In 1999, he was created a Prince Hall Shriner in Tuwa Temple No. 228, A.E.A.O.N.M.S., where he actively participated in charitable efforts to uplift and enrich the community. In addition to his military and fraternal accomplishments, Ray was passionate about sports. A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Philadelphia 76ers, he also loved playing basketball in his younger years. He found great joy in fishing and was revered as the BBQ “grill master” at family and social gatherings. Above all, Ray cherished his role as a father and grandfather. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and spoiling his first grandchild, Selina, whom he adored. Ray leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his devoted children: Patricia Hicks, Marquis Myers and his wife T’Keyah, Raymond Myers Jr., Jaylen Myers, and Kalyn My-ers; his cherished granddaughter, Selina Myers; his caring brothers, Darren Curtis and Lacey Curtis; his dearest friends, Daryl and Shirley Singleton; and a host of fraternal, military, and professional colleagues. His inviting smile, welcoming character, and genuine warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory forever be a blessing.
