Baghavad Gita Chapter 2, Verse 20: The soul is neither born, nor does it ever die; nor having once existed, does it ever cease to be. The soul is without birth, eternal, immortal, and ageless. It is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.

It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of our deeply loved and cherished mother, Rajinder Munjal, on February 26, 2022.  Mom is survived by our devoted father, Satinder K. Munjal; her son and daughter-in-law Ajay and Soni; daughter Sunita; daughter and son-in-law Sangita and Anil; and five very loved grandchildren Nikhil, Alisha, Kavi, Hansin, and Karina.

Mom started this life’s journey in November of 1939, born to Chaman lal and Shanti Sethi in Gujranwala, India.  After losing their property and possessions in the partition, my mother’s family made a new life in Karnal, India where mom went to school and then went on to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts from Dayanand Training College for Women in Karnal 1957-59.  Mom’s adventures were just starting with her teaching job at the private and then government school.  She was very close to her parents, especially her father, and always thoughtful and caring towards them.  Her only sibling, Kusam, was 15 years younger, like a daughter, and at one time a student in her class.

Mom married our father, Satinder, in 1962 and eventually joined him in 1971 in the USA, with three young kids in tow, to start her next adventure, a new life in a new country, with a different culture, food, language, and friends.  Out of necessity and with the needed talent she became an excellent cook, seamstress, new home finder and decorator, party-planner (loved and hosted many parties), and quite adept at camping in a tent on vacations.  We kids had fresh hot home-made lunches and dinners, dresses expertly stitched by mom, and at holidays she made cookies, pies, cakes, Indian desserts, assembly line for samosas.   If that wasn’t enough, mom was also working part-time, making sure to be home in the mornings and early evenings when the kids were there.   When the grandchildren came along so did birthday parties and milestone occasions celebrated in great style at their nani/dadi’s home.

In later life mom was so brave in coping with her chronic health issues, and the many trials of treatment that frustratingly gave little to no relief.  Dad stayed close by her side and lovingly filled the growing needs for care.  Her love, teachings and wisdom will be forever in our hearts.  May her suffering be at an end and her soul at peace.
