On Wednesday, August 05, 2015, surrounded by her family, the Lord took Phyllis Ilene (Gazelle) Devore by the hand and peacefully led her home. A Christian who faithfully followed Jesus Christ, Mrs. Devore attended the Community Church of God in Glen Burnie, MD.
Daughter of Edna Pearl (Hoffman) Gazelle and Frank Vande Gazelle, Mrs. Devore was born December 9, 1933, at home, in Bloomington, Illinois. At the age of 16, she met her future husband Donald Beryl Devore, and they married August 11, 1953 in Bloomington, Illinois. In 1955, the Navy brought Mr. and Mrs. Devore to the Washington D.C. area. There Mrs. Devore worked for Sears Department store, then the Department of Defense and later the Board of Education for Anne Arundel County where she worked as an attendance secretary for Arundel Senior High School and then Meade Senior High School.
Mrs. Devore enjoyed crafting, painting and gardening. She maintained several large flower beds at her home until her health no longer allowed.
She leaves behind her husband, of nearly 62 years, Donald Devore; daughters, Diane (Don) Boyer and Carol (Terry) Hays; son, Dave (Esther) LaMaster; 8 grandchildren, Michael Boyer, Steven Boyer, Rebecca Boyer, Joshua (Jess) Majerowicz, Matthew Majerowicz, Sarah Majerowicz, Thomas LaMaster and Kimberly LaMaster; sister, Wavia Rheim. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dale Hoffman.
The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113, on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Community Church of God, 306 5th Ave. SE, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow Gambrills Church of God Cemetery, Gambrills, MD.
