Randolph and Rosalie Knowles joyfully welcomed their daughter, Patricia Knowles, into the world on Friday, December 7, 1951, in New York City. Raised in the Bronx, Patricia grew up alongside her two brothers, Richard and Randy Knowles.

Patricia received her education through the Bronx school system and graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1971. She was eager to learn, curious about the world around her, and always enjoyed discovering new information and experiences.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Patricia met the love of her life, Michael Bertty Sr. Michael courted Patricia for several years and eventually won her heart. After asking for her hand in marriage, the two were married in 1974 in Bronx County, New York.

Two years after saying “I do,” Patricia and Michael welcomed their first child, Monica Anita Bertty. Three years later, their family grew again with the birth of their son, Michael Bertty II. Although their marriage ended after ten years, Patricia never allowed life’s challenges to stop her from living, loving, and enjoying life to the fullest.

Patricia built a successful career and was a hardworking woman who took pride in her work. She worked at MetLife Insurance in Manhattan, New York, in the Accounts Payable Department. Never afraid of a new opportunity, Patricia later took a leap of faith and began a career with New York-Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH). She faithfully served at NYPH from the mid-1990s until the fall of 2016, when changes caused by dementia led to her retirement.

As Patricia’s needs changed, her son Michael lovingly stepped in to ensure that his mother received the care and support she needed. In August 2016, Michael was granted temporary guardianship by the State of New York, followed by full guardianship in September 2017. The following month, Patricia was transferred to Autumn Lake Healthcare at Glen Burnie in Maryland.

Even during this chapter of her life, Patricia’s personality remained unforgettable. She was a vibrant resident who kept the staff on their toes and brought her own special energy wherever she went. She was known for her spirit, her personality, and the presence she brought into every room.

Patricia truly knew how to enjoy life. She loved catching the White Sales at Macy’s and could never pass up the opportunity to find a good deal on towels and sheets. She enjoyed traveling with friends and visiting new places. She practiced karate for self-defense, loved to dance, and always enjoyed a good visit to the hair salon—especially when it was time to let the Dominican stylists work their magic. She was also an avid collector of Tweety Bird memorabilia, a collection that reflected her fun and playful personality.

Patricia’s life was filled with love, laughter, family, friendship, and unforgettable memories. Her journey was uniquely hers, and the impact she made on those who knew and loved her will forever remain in their hearts. Though she will be deeply missed, Patricia’s vibrant spirit, joyful personality, and beautiful memories will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.

Patricia Bertty, age 74, peacefully transitioned on Sunday, July 26, 2026. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter, Monica Bertty; her son, Michael Bertty II; her daughter-in-law, Brittaenee; her brother, Richard Knowles; and her grandchildren, Kayla Castellan, Joshua Bertty, and Sydney Castellan, along with a host of relatives, friends, loved ones, and all who were blessed to know her.
