Oscar Odell Rice Jr. was born on January 30th, 1953, to the late Mattie and Oscar Rice Sr. He passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2024, at his home.
He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Houston-Woods High School in 1973. Oscar was employed by the Anne Arundel County Public School System and was known to be a very hard worker. He loved his job very much. November 19, 2024, would have marked 34 years of employment there. He was also heavily involved as a union member, serving on the safety committee.
For those who knew Oscar, he was a straightforward, no nonsense, tell it like it is type of guy who had a zest for life that touched everyone around him. He enjoyed going out dancing with his friends and most times he would be the first on the dance floor. He even enjoyed roller skating! Yes, roller skating. He also believed in taking care of his body and enjoyed working out.
A true lover of all sports, Oscar would watch and cheer loudly for his favorite teams, especially for the Baltimore Ravens and LA Lakers. However, his passion and undeniable love was for exotic cars. He loved driving them, working on them, and even helping others repair their car.
Above all else, Oscar was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had deep affection for his family and was a source of love, guidance and support. Out of the union of Oscar and Virgie, Lisa and Melody were born. Oscar married Denise Hearns, but later they divorced. Out of this union came Nicahya and stepson Jamiel. On May 10, 1981, Oscar was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Oscar lived life fully and with a spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Melody Scott, Nicahya Rice, one stepson, Jamiel Hopkins, four grandchildren, Malcolm Jones, Lashae Powell, Lionel Reaves Jr., Jordan Hopkins, two great grandchildren, Kaleb Putty, Jamar Harper Jr., two brothers, Rudy Rice and James Rice, one sister Vanessa Rice.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Rice and his sister Eldonia Rice.
