Michael “Poppi” Dale Cavey, born on April 8, 1947, in Virginia, departed this life peacefully at home on December 25, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, adventure, and heartfelt generosity, cherished by all who knew him.
Michael dedicated 20 years in the United States Air Force with multiple tours overseas most notably during the Vietnam war. Mike served for two decades in logistics, retiring as a Master Sergeant honoring his country with unwavering commitment. After retiring his profession was in the commercial HVAC industry and eventually providing service to the residents of Prince George’s County for 20 years for the second retirement.
Throughout his life, Michael was known for his adventurous spirit and love for travel. Together with his beloved wife, Doris "Grammy D" Cavey, he embraced the freedom of the open road, selling their house to travel full-time in an RV. Their journeys included many wonderful trips across the country, making memories that will be cherished forever. Michael also enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson trike with Doris, a testament to his love for exploration. He was a proud friend of Bill W. and also enjoyed participating in 2nd Amendment activities.
After many years on the road, Michael and Doris settled in Florida for 12 years before returning to Maryland, where they continued to build a fulfilling life surrounded by family. He was a proud father to his sons, Chris Cavey and Bob Cavey, and a loving step-father to Angela Fitts and Julia Shuffler. Michael's family were his pride and joy, and he is remembered fondly by his siblings, Kenny Cavey, Peaches Poole, Cita Dorsch, and Donna Chilcoate.
As a grandfather, Michael took great joy in the lives of Cole Cavey, Nick Sincavage, Nicole Cavey, and Jonathan Geller. He was also a devoted companion to their beloved Pomeranian, Thor, who brought joy and comfort to his days.
In addition to his adventurous pursuits, Michael was known for his philanthropic spirit. He was very generous and charitable, contributing to many military organizations that support veterans, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to those who served.
Michael leaves behind a profound impact on family and friends, who will remember him for his adventurous spirit, loving nature, and unwavering dedication to helping others. His memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
