Melanie Lois (Lipphard) Smith

Melanie L. Smith, a resident of Gambrills, MD, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD. She was 48.

Melanie, awesome sister, untiring mom, compassionate friend  and extraordinary girl scout troop leader. Pretty much nothing she couldn't do. She loved to be outdoors. Whether it was weeding in the garden, making smores at her chimenea, playing corn hole, or taking the girls for a hike. She liked food scented Yankee Candle candles, giraffes, baking, Tim McGraw's Felt Good on my Lips song, Bruce Willis movies and tequila. Her most recent craft to keep her hands busy was card making. She worked on them daily and sent them to friends and family just as often. She has volunteered her time with the Ark and Dove church to help feed the homeless and spent hours upon hours thinking of ways to form and brighten girl scouts minds.  But above all else, her greatest joys and treasures were her daughters, Emily and Sydney showing them the world one step at a time.

She has left her family and this earth way too soon. Our only consolation is that she is with her mother, who she admired and missed very much.

Melanie is survived by her loving daughters, Emily Elizabeth and Sydney Erin Smith; former husband and father of the children, Michael Smith; five devoted siblings, Steve Sherman, Leslie Lipphard, Kelley Lipphard, Sharon Blankenship and Phillip Lipphard; loving companion, Andrew Condor. Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Juanita Lipphard.

A Memorial Service will be held at Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church, 1239 Murray Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, 4806 Seton Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215. When making a donation please note: " In Memory of Melanie Smith".
