Mary Hebert Mangan

1934 – 2020

Mary Mangan, a native of Cobleskill, NY and longtime resident of Hagerstown, MD, is yet another victim of COVID-19. She was 86 years old, and had been living a joyful life in Severna Park, MD until she was struck by the deadly virus just 16 days before her passing.

Mary grew up on a showplace dairy farm, Pine Lake Farm near Cobleskill. She graduated from Albany Business College in 1953, where she met her husband, Jerry Mangan, who attended nearby Siena College. They lived in Frankfurt, Germany, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and Western Massachusetts before moving to Hagerstown in 1975. Her husband Jerry was an executive at Pangborn Corporation, reaching Vice President status.

In addition to raising four children, Mary was a successful career woman who earned respect in the business world. She is best known as a leading real estate agent and broker, working for more than 20 years in the Hagerstown area, primarily at Long & Foster Real Estate, where she eventually opened and managed the Greencastle, PA office. She later worked for O’Connor Piper & Flynn and Advantage Realty. For many years, Mary was one of the top-selling, million-dollar agents in the county, earning many awards.

Mary also served as an election judge; was an environmentalist that led the charge to conserve an important ecosystem in Massachusetts; an avid gardener who created a colorful landscape; an expert jitterbug dancer; and avid reader. She was intelligent and passionate, generous and big-hearted, tough and strong, funny and sassy, a memorable character.

Her family includes husband Jerry Mangan, 87; four children Michael, Kathleen, Theresa Bosse and Daniel; and five grandchildren Patrick, Connor and Clare Mangan, and Ryan and Kyle Bosse. After a private mass, she will be buried in Cobleskill, NY in the family plot.

If you would like to make a contribution in Mary Mangan's name, she would love them to go to either The Nature Conservancy (https://support.nature.org/site/Donation2?df_id=10420&10420.donation=form1) or to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (https://give.bcrf.org/give/31404/#!/donation/checkout).

She was a generous woman, and will be smiling on behalf of such causes.
