Morrison and was born on October 11, 1938 in Boothton, Alabama.
Marvin received his formal education in Detroit, Michigan, attending Courville Intermediate School and graduating from Pershing High School. Marvin attended Wayne University before entering the United States Army in 1956, where he initially served as a traffic analyst technician and later as a intelligence analyst and Thai linguist, becoming fluent in several languages. His duty assignments included Vietnam, Germany and Okinawa, Japan. While on active duty, he continued his formal education earning a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland, University College.
Marvin served in the military for 20 years, before retiring in 1976, having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-2. During his service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After retiring from the military, Marvin worked for Goddard Space Flight Center, serving as a technical writer before retiring in 2004.
Marvin’s varied hobbies included tweaking electronics and enjoying cultural arts to include plays, musical performances, and museums. He was also an avid military historian and genealogy researcher. However, his passion was travelling the world. Marvin was also an active member of the Embreeda Social Club for over 50 years where he served as the club’s secretary and treasurer.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, of over 38 years, Juanita (Brinkley) Morrison; mother, Luvenia (Morrison) Boyington; father, Charles Prentice; step-father, Horace Boyington; son, Dave Thomas; and grandson, Byron Fate.
Marvin is survived by his son, Michael Morrison; daughter, Kim Scott; grandson, Bryant Scott; grand- daughters, Suku Thomas, Brittany Thomas, Mia Morrison, and Aaron Thomas; great-grandchildren, Isaac Hoegberg and Aubrey Hoegberg; and devoted brother and sister, Horace Boyington, Jr. and Michele (Boyington) Berry. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Stene Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.
