Marcelo Luis Aguilar of Odenton, MD, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Laurel, MD. He was 44. Marcelo was born on June 27, 1979, in Cheverly, MD and was the son of Wilfredo Aguilar and Haydee (nee Mercedes) Aguilar.
“A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.” ~Maya Angelou
Marcelo had a remarkable ability to connect with people, to forge deep and meaningful relationships that stood the test of time. Marcelo was a connector, people who link us up in the world. He had a special gift for maintaining long-lasting friendships and bringing friends and family together. An example of this is the family Zoom calls he started and hosted during COVID. He wanted to make sure we stayed connected and used it to check on the well-being of many of our cousins, aunts, and uncles. Marcelo’s friendships were built on a foundation of trust, respect, and mutual admiration, a testament to his genuine and caring nature. As a brother, he was our pillar of strength, always there to lend a listening ear or offer words of wisdom. His laughter was infectious, brightening up the room and bringing joy to those around him. He had a way of making people feel seen and heard, a gift that endeared him to many. His love was boundless, encompassing not only his family but extending to friends, co-workers, and even strangers.
Throughout Marcelo’s life, he wore many hats - a loving son, a devoted father, a dedicated brother, a reliable cousin, a loyal and trustworthy friend, and a doting uncle. In each role, he excelled, pouring his heart and soul into nurturing the relationships that meant so much to him.
Marcelo embraced life and all it offered – his passion for food, he was definitely a food connoisseur who enjoyed every meal and along with the company of family and friends. He turned into a motorcycle buff – he was always looking to work on his bikes and add new features. He was a Grill Master – he loved grilling food and all it represented to bringing family and friends together. We had this thing as brothers – we always set aside a choice piece of whatever we were grilling as a “taste test” just for us. Marcelo was a music devotee – he loved and enjoyed music. He told us stories of how he would start Zoom calls at AIPAC early and play music. It turned into a thing to join his calls early to listen to the mix of music he played. He recently converted a room in his house to a music room where he could enjoy listening to vinyl records of all his favorite artists. Our brother was a traveling enthusiast – one of his most memorable trips was a work trip to Israel. He always looked forward to travelling to Los Angeles to connect and visit our vast west coast family.
Along with his parents, Marcelo is survived by his loving son, Miguel Aguilar of Severn, MD; devoted brothers (Victor and Mike), sisters-in-law Karen and Alexis, nephews Victor, Emilio, and Daniel; nieces Taylor and Lauren. As well as adoring and close-knit aunts, uncles, and cousins.

For My Brother
You left without Warning. Gone so fast. Now all we have Are memories Of our past.
You are loved by so many. You might not Have known, But in our hearts Is where You have grown.
The memories I have throughout The years Will last forever with Laughter and tears.
We shared so much Since we were young. My wish now will be To have you back healthy And alive.
I will miss you Oh so much. So will all The lives that You have Touched.
I can’t say goodbye. I can’t accept Your death. You will live in my heart Forever Until my last breath.
