Lynn Sasser

June 16, 1954 — July 17, 2024

Lynn (Collins) Sasser passed away on July 17, 2024 after a very lengthy and grueling battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her beloved family and friends at the end.

She was the daughter of the late Anthony C. Collins and the late Shirley Ponzurick Collins.

Upon graduation from the Uniontown High School in Uniontown, PA, she served in the US Air Force. She then embarked on a Federal Service career that spanned over 40 years. She initially worked at Fort Ritchie, MD, but the majority of her time was at Ft George G. Meade, MD, where she served in many integral positions to include the Director of Logistics, Meade 2000 Program Manager and Deputy Installation Commander. She also served in a variety of positions within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Programs. She was renowned for her mentoring and advocating for the advancement of women in the workplace. She was also a graduate of the Army Command Staff College Executive Leadership and Management Program. In addition to her remarkable career, she will be remembered for her many hobbies and interests including crafting, photography, traveling and cooking and her sports teams.

She is predeceased in death by her husband of 15 years, Alton R. Sasser.

She is survived by her partner of 33 years, Richard Laderoute, whom she met while assigned to manage the deployment of troops during Operation Desert Storm at Ft Meade. She is also survived by a brother, Mark Collins (Wenmei Shu) and niece, Bijun Collins; a sister, Kimberly Wildasin (Stephen) and nephews, Josef Wildasin (Jordan Kroll) and Mikel Wildasin; an aunt, Helen Ponzurick (godmother), special cousins Doris Machinsky and Phil Ponzurick; two great-nephews; and numerous cousins. She will also be forever remembered by her dearest friend, Dorothy Terri, and all the special women in in her Ladies Night Out Club.

Her love and dedication to her family, friends and country was unparalleled and she will be sincerely missed by everyone she encountered.
