Loretta Joan Houston

Loretta Joan Houston of Gambrills, Maryland, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, at the age of 82. She was born on August 16, 1941, in Washington, D.C., to John and Mary Houston. Loretta enjoyed the simple pleasures of Maryland living, savoring the company of loved ones over crab feasts. A devoted gardener and bird watcher, she found solace in nature's beauty.

After retiring in 2013, Loretta generously volunteered her time in the community as a dedicated parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church in Crofton.

Loretta is survived by her children Teri Pack, and Peggy Smith (Marvin); grandchildren Tanner and Riley Pack and Nathan and Emily Schreiber. Siblings John Houston (Carol), Paul Houston (Kate), Ann Sweeney (Mike), Fran Flowers (Bill), and Richard Houston; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

Loretta is preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Houston; siblings Margaret Houston and Tom Houston, and children Kathy Schreiber and Jimmy Schreiber.

In this moment of parting, let us not dwell on the physical departure, but instead, celebrate the transcendence of Loretta’s soul to a realm where gardens bloom eternally and the song of birds echoes in everlasting harmony.

Visitation will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., in Odenton, Maryland, on December 2, 2023, at 11:00 am, service will follow at the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Special Olympics of Maryland, a cause close to Loretta’s heart.
