Kuchibhotla Subbarao

Dr. Kuchibhotla Subbarao MD (Dr. Rao) passed away peacefully on January 29, 2021, due to non–COVID19 causes. He survived by his wife Jaya Kuchibhotla, retired scientist, and a molecular biologist.

Dr. Rao was born in India and hails from a large family of professionals that are spread around the world.  He received his master’s degree in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and his Doctorate in Biochemistry from the Northwestern University Medical School,  Chicago, IL.  Dr.  Rao was a passionate scientist from the beginning and published several research papers in the field of Thrombosis and Hemostasis.

Later in his career, Dr. Rao got interested in Medicine and received his MD degree (1981), and became Board certified in Nephrology.  He practiced for several years in Maryland, and Washington D.C. area as a Nephrologist.  He was affiliated with Doctors Community Hospital, Washington Medical Center, Southern Maryland Hospital, Prince George Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital from 1990’s.

Dr. Rao, always a friendly and easily approachable individual, took particular interest in making his patients and their families comfortable while undergoing treatments for chronic diseases.  He used his lighthearted nature and humor to make his fellow physicians and staff relaxed under stressful conditions that are normally associated with his work.  Dr. Rao, endowed with his kind and giving nature, willingly volunteered to cover his fellow physicians – when needed.

Apart from medicine, Dr. Rao’s passion included studying the ancient history of India, Vedic Scriptures, and manuscripts relating to common laws and ethics of the period around 300 B.C.

Dr. Rao will be missed by his family and friends alike and remember his ever-smiling disposition.
