Obituary

Mark Giles passed away peacefully on October 16th 2026, at Harbor Hospital surrounded by his family, friends, and his dog.

Born September 10th, 1974 in Baltimore, Maryland to Jerry and Judi Giles, Mark had an especially close relationship with both of his parents. He never missed an opportunity to tell you how intelligent his father was and how much he loved him. He never failed to mention how much he loved his moms cooking and how much he loved spending time with her. He always told everyone that he marched to his own beat and that his parents supported him every step of the way. He was so proud of both of his parents and shared the love he had for them with everyone he knew.

Mark spent his life doing the things he loved. He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for the preservation of things like the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and wildlife. He loved to garden, especially growing spicy peppers so that he could make his own salsas. He loved watching the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens, especially football on Sundays surrounded by his friends and family. He loved talking about football with his oldest Daughter Marlee. Together they drafted fantasy football teams, watched the NFL draft together, and called each other after every Ravens game to discuss their performance. This year he hoped the Ravens would make the Superbowl. He shared his love of fishing with all three of his kids by going with them frequently and sharing all of his fishing wisdom. Both of Mark's parents were avid readers, and through their love of reading he loved it too. He loved all music but some of his favorites were heavy metal bands like Metallica and System of a Down, and country music like Willie Nelson and The Highwaymen.

Mark is remembered most for the person he was. He was funny and he always loved to make people laugh. Even while dying he wanted everyone who was with him to laugh and feel at ease. He was always there for everyone who needed him. He was the first to volunteer to help; the first person there and the last to go home. He was laid-back; never rushing to get anywhere, always taking the world in at his own pace. He loved deeply, never shying away from telling those he loved just how much they meant to him.

Mark's most favorite thing above all in this world were his three kids. He never shied away from taking them along to experience all that the world had to offer. He never missed a recital or game. Before big events in the morning he would turn on his heavy metal music, turn it up, and jam out to get his kids excited for whatever was ahead. He wanted to be a part of their world and was honored to share it with them. He shared all that he loved with them and was so proud. At the end of his life, he was proud to have become a grandfather and share in the life of his grandson.

Mark is preceded in death by his son, Angelo, and his father Jerry. He is survived by his mother, Judi and Stepfather Jerry, wife Carleen, daughter Marlee and son-in-law Chrisjen, son Ian, daughter Emma, and his grandson Myles. Also survived by sisters Sabrina and husband Eddie, Laura and husband Troy and brothers Ekie and Melvin. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. His kindness and laughter will echo in our lives forever.

The family has arranged for a viewing to be held at Donaldson Funeral Home on October 25th 2026 from 2 to 4 p.m. Immediately following the viewing, a Remembrance Reception will be held at his mother Judi’s house. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage, a cause that was dear to Mark.
