Katherine 'Katie' L. Vachon

Katie  L. Vachon, 32, of Odenton, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 24, 2020.  Katherine Lorraine Pickle was born on January 17, 1988, in San Antonio, TX, to Gary  and Denise Pickle. Denise later returned to her maiden name, Denise C. Vachon.

Katie lived in Maryland with her mother from the age of four, taking her mother’s family name at eight. She attended local public schools and graduated from Anne Arundel High School in 2006. The following year, Katie accompanied her mother on her assignment to Stuttgart, Germany.  Living overseas, Katie enjoyed an informal education few are fortunate enough to experience. In addition to broadening her world view, Katie returned to Maryland in 2010, fully fluent in German, a noteworthy achievement.

Once back in Maryland, Katie became a member of the local AA community, where she not only received support, but made many meaningful friendships, resulting in a large, extended family that she loved. Embracing the 12 Step Program, Katie also became a member of Bay Area Community Church of Annapolis, and more recently the Lighthouse Church in Glen Burnie.  Katie was a beacon of light, smiling everywhere she went and bringing joy and happiness to all those around her. She always saw the good in someone, no matter what. She enjoyed the beach and the calming serenity of the ocean waves. She loved butterflies, as she was one herself, fluttering and letting the wind carry her. She was so full of love, a very rare soul, and well cultured. She took great comfort in her belief in Jesus. She knew Jesus as a best friend and chose to call God, Daddy.

Katie achieved a life long desire to become a mother. Taylor Lee was born April 20, 2018. She had also recently become a licensed Realtor and had been looking forward to a rewarding  career in Real Estate.

Katie is survived by her son, Taylor, her life partner and Taylor’s father, Tyler Bair, and her mother, Denise Vachon, in Maryland; her father Gary Pickle, in Arkansas; her half-sister, Jessie Kirkpatrick, in Tennessee; and her grandmother Hazel Holloway in Texas.  Her extended family includes many aunts, uncles and cousins primarily in Maine and Texas. A special mention is extended to Katie’s aunt, Connie Sylvester, of North Carolina, who’s family graciously cared for Katie while Denise served a year in South Korea with the U.S. Air Force. Katie was very much loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A private “Celebration of Life” ceremony will be held at 7:00 pm, August 22, 2020, at the Coale family residence, 1688 Crownsville Road, Crownsville, MD, 21032. Although there is plenty of room for social distancing, available seating is limited.
