On August 24, 2025, Josephine “Josie” Cecelia Smith passed away peacefully due to complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was a longtime resident of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She met her husband Ron while vacationing at Disney World. They were married soon after and on July 21, 2025, they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Josie obtained her teaching degree and Master’s in Education from Bowie State University. She retired from the Prince George’s County Public School system after 30 years as a Special Education Coordinator. She loved teaching and working with families to support students’ needs. Even as her dementia progressed, she always remembered her love for the 26 year tradition of a week with the kids and grandkids in Emerald Isle, NC.
Josie was the devoted wife of Ronald W. Smith; loving mother of Lynn Rashid (Jason), and Ronny Smith (Kim), Deborah Ohara (David), Rhonda Curtright (Steve); beloved sister of Frannie Parnell, Joe Moses, Joanie Garafalo, Marie Stahl, and her twin sister Helen Conforti. Josie was predeceased by her parents Francis and Margaret Moses and her sisters Peggy Melnick and Stephanie Green.
