On March 4, 2019, Joseph F. Hester Jr., a longtime resident of Odenton, passed away at the age of 91. Devoted husband of 53 years to the late Karin Hester; beloved father of Jeanette Roland, Michael J. Hester (wife Edita), and Dorothy Harting (husband George); cherished grandfather of Angela Postanowicz, Samantha Roland, Rachel Roland, Olivia Hester, Charles Harting, Andrew Harting, and Daniel Harting; adoring great-grandfather of Liam Postanowicz, Madelyn Mindick, Delaney Postanowicz, Waylon Bruce, Noah Postanowicz, and Jacob Bruce. He was predeceased by his siblings, Woodrow, Beulah, Melva, James, and Calista.
Born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, Joe proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army for 20 years during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam war. While stationed in Germany, he met his future wife Karin. After retiring from the Army, he worked as a civilian in the Army Transportation Office before retiring again after 20 years of service. Joe was a member of his local Masonic lodge. He enjoyed the time he spent with his friends, especially at the McDonald’s Breakfast Club and the O’Malley Senior Center. Joe’s hobbies included shooting pool, tending to his vegetable garden and fruit trees, and collecting coins.
